Cryotherapy with CryoPen
Targeted, Medical-Grade Treatment for Benign Skin Lesions
At Ny Beauti Aesthetics, we use the CryoPen®, a cutting-edge cryotherapy device designed for the safe, precise, and effective removal of benign skin lesions. CryoPen® is widely used in dermatology and aesthetic medicine to treat a variety of skin concerns with minimal discomfort and downtime.
What Is CryoPen® Cryotherapy?
CryoPen® is a non-invasive cryosurgical treatment that uses highly pressurized liquid nitrous oxide to freeze and destroy unwanted skin cells. This device delivers an ultra-cold jet (-89°C) with pinpoint precision, making it ideal for treating small, localized lesions without damaging the surrounding healthy skin.
CryoPen is commonly used to treat:
- Skin tags
- Solar lentigines (sun spots)
- Seborrheic keratoses
- Warts (including plantar warts)
- Cherry angiomas
- Milia
- Other benign epidermal lesions
How the Treatment Works
CryoPen works through a process called cryonecrosis — the rapid freezing of targeted skin tissue. Here’s how it works:
- Targeting the Lesion: The CryoPen emits a fine, controlled jet of liquid nitrous oxide, directly applied to the lesion.
- Cellular Destruction: The cold causes the water in skin cells to crystallize, leading to controlled destruction of the lesion without harming nearby tissue.
- Precision & Safety: The narrow tip allows for accurate treatment of even the smallest lesions, with consistent depth and temperature.
Because CryoPen does not use liquid nitrogen, it’s more precise and less likely to cause pigment changes, especially in patients with darker skin tones when used appropriately.
What to Expect During the Procedure
CryoPen treatment is typically fast, simple, and well tolerated. Here’s what you can expect:
- Consultation: Lindsey will assess the lesion(s) to confirm that they are benign and suitable for treatment.
- Preparation: The skin is cleansed. Anesthetic is usually not required.
- Treatment: The CryoPen is applied to the lesion for a few seconds, depending on size and depth. A second freeze-thaw cycle may be used for certain lesions.
- Duration: The entire procedure typically takes 5–15 minutes.
Most clients describe the sensation as a slight stinging or cold “pinch,” similar to a frostbite-like feeling, which resolves quickly after treatment.
Aftercare & Recovery
CryoPen treatment requires minimal downtime, and most patients can resume normal activities immediately. Post-treatment effects are usually mild and part of the natural healing process:
- Redness & Swelling: Mild inflammation may occur for a few hours post-treatment.
- Blistering: A small blister or crust may form within 24–48 hours.
- Healing Time: The treated area typically scabs over and falls off within 1–2 weeks. Full healing may take 2–4 weeks depending on the lesion type and size.
- Pigment Changes: Temporary hypopigmentation or hyperpigmentation may occur, especially in darker skin tones, but usually resolves over time.
- Follow-Up: In some cases, a second session may be needed for complete removal.
Important: Treated areas should be kept clean and protected from direct sun exposure during the healing phase. Do not pick at scabs or blisters to avoid scarring.
